This compelling and hard-hitting novel, written by John Schembra, follows Vince Torelli, a young Military Policeman, through his tour of duty in Vietnam. The story begins in June of 1967, when Vince first steps off the plane at Bien Hoa Air Base. Drafted into the Army five months earlier, he had a hard time realizing he was in Vietnam, in the midst of a war. He had been assigned to the 557th MP Co., Long Binh Post, his home for the next year.

His year in Vietnam changes him from a somewhat naive young man to a battle hardened veteran. Through unlucky chance, Vince becomes involved in the ferocious ' 68 Tet offensive, barely surviving the night. He sees and experiences things he could never have imagined before Vietnam. This is Vince's story, of how he survived that year in Vietnam, how he coped with the hell he faced, of the friendships he formed, and of the sorrow of lives lost.

Based partly on personal experiences, John has written a gritty, realistic portrayal of the war that provides the reader with taut action and a look into what it was like to be a Combat Military Policeman.

MP has been called "a rare find"  by the Word Museum.
