James R. Kelly
James Kelly served twenty-five years in law enforcement. He retired from service in 1995. During 1966 Mr. Kelly served on tour of duty in Vietnam as a Marine with 3d. Amtracs. Subsequent to his discharge from the Marine Corps, James was employed as a clerk/teletype operator with the FBI. James’s friendship with several FBI agents prompted his decision to pursue a career in law enforcement, however not with the FBI. Drug enforcement offered more excitement and thus became his chosen career. Mr. Kelly graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. James is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia; the Ten Week Basic Police School, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Washington, D.C.; Homicide Investigation School, University of Louisville; Law Enforcement Management School, Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts; Improvised Explosive Devices School, Huntsville, Alabama; Organized Crime School, Biscayne College, Miami, Florida; Photography School, John F. Kennedy University, San Francisco, California. One of Mr. Kelly’s favorite pastimes is eating breakfast at the Sportsman Inn restaurant in Jackson, Wyoming. The local patrons meet there early, 5:30 a.m., to talk. James enjoys listening to their stories. James’s favorite places are anywhere in Wyoming or Montana. His dream is for a world-wide ban on land mines. His hope is for a drug-free America and cures for cancer and AIDS. His present ambition is to create interesting books. Mr. Kelly’s next book, Casting Alpha, will be out in 2001.
